Things were looking up last night at WIR… We had a GREAT car in practice… The #36 MCL Team had the quickest time with a 19.4 second lap… the car was great…

Qualifying was good as well… we missed the mark just a bit, but still had a great time of 19.6 putting us in the top 10 and easily in the show.

In the 75 lap feature the car was working great the first half or so keeping us in the top 5 trying to save tires and make the best of the evening, but as we burned fuel the back end got lighter and lighter… As that happened, we got looser and looser due to the rear tires no longer having the weight they needed for proper traction… We faded back to the 12th position overall…

The good news is that we did not wreck and it's an easy fix to gain rear weight… simply moving some lead on shop night and we are on our way again.

Next week is a normal FRRC Thursday night show at WIR… Racing starts at 7:00

July 10, 2009

A real rough night at the track for the #36 MCL Racing Team… Our recent strong suit, qualifying, wasn't so last night…. We qualified horrible and ended up 16th overall….

Same result in the heat…. We got carried to the back on the outside lane by a slow car and on the last lap spun out… ending up dead last in the 7th place.

We acquired a Grand Total of 0 points at that point in the evening… We were very frusterated and disappointed.

With all that put aside, the MCL Pit Crew went to work on the car one last time and made some great adjustments…. We had a REALLY good car for the feature… We started 15th and in 6 laps had moved up well into the top 10, roughly to the 8th place… That’s where the bottom fell out once again on us… The #3 and #10 got together and the #10 spun in front of us… we had no place to go on the track as he was sliding sideways and we smashed square into his door. The front of our car was smashed and the radiator was broke ending our night on lap 7.

On a side note, later in the race the #3 of John Meidam was in a serious accident causing him some serious back pain. It took roughly a half hour to extract him from the car, having to cut the top off the car and remove John without moving his back or neck to avoid further injury. They took him to Theda Clark for further examination and found that he had a chipped vertebrate. They were planning on releasing him to go home last night with some pain medication. That was very good news… It was a very scary moment…

We dropped to 4th in the points with the struggling evening…

Next week… The WHITE Race… 75 lap feature! We are currently 2nd in points looking for a good showing and our first feature win of the season!

See you at the track!

Be sure to come down to WIR this Thursday night July 2nd and watch the current 2nd place #36 MCL Racing Team try to close in on the point leader!!!

Along with some great racing action, there will be a fireworks show to follow the races that night! Be sure to bring the kids for an exciting night of racing and a free fireworks show!!!

Come down to the pits after all the dust settles and they can sit in the #36 Car and you can take pictures to capture the great memories!

BIG thanks to Don & Jared Schuette from Welding Works, long time sponsor of the #36 Team, for all their hard work on our new fuel cell… We purchased a used fuel cell from DEI (Dale Earnhardt Incorporated) a few weeks ago and Don & Jared made an awesome mounting system for it so it would fit in our car. We will have it bolted in place and hopefully adding to our whole package to compete with the top dogs at the top of the point standings.

See you all Thursday… 7:00

Another great night of racing riddled with new career Highs for the #36 MCL Team…

We finally cracked a good qualifying time and had a new Late Model Career high 3rd place qualifying effort… Making the fast Dash…

We put on one heck of a show racing with current point leader JVO in the dash, racing wheel to wheel passing him on the outside lane, then 2 laps later he snuck back to the inside of us and passed us on the last corner coming to the checkers, putting us 4th in the dash…

We started fairly far back in the Feature in the 6th row… We had some trouble in the race, but managed to salvage a top 10 and finished 9th overall. Half way through the race, my radio came unplugged from my helmet. Well to say that caused some major headaches is an understatement. Our speeds on the backstretch come close to 130 mph and I have no mirror in the car, 100% relying on spotter Billy Gee's communications. Without that, we were only average for 10 laps until I could find the plug and get it plugged back in the helmet. We lost a half a straightaway on the pack during that time. We really needed a yellow flag, but of course, none to be found. We caught the pack on the last lap, but not enough time. 9th was all we could muster.

The GREAT news however is that we still had a great points night overall and moved up the rung another spot up to another NEW Career High 2nd Place in the overall standings. We are real excited to be in 2nd and hope to keep running strong and keep the heat on JVO for that top spot.

See you next Thursday at WIR,
Tom Gee Jr.

The rains held off and we had awesome weather for racing!!! We had a lot of struggles throughout the night, but the #36 MCL Pit Crew kept working hard and prevailed!!! HUGE thanks to Tom Sr, Chuck, Billy, Dan, Jeff & Caleb...
They keep catching problems early & keeping us running up front!

Practice was real rough... we got to the track and struggled to keep up with a BAD vibration in the stearing wheel... the team found a bad left front shock and got it replaced JUST in time for qualifying...

The #15 of Doug Malik put down oil all the way around the track in qualifying. It turned into a skating rink. They canceled the rest of qualifying and lined everyone up by average time. Which turned out to be a blessing for us... we were not sure how the borrowed shock was going to react as it was not the same brand as ours, so it was nice to go straight to the heat to test it out.

We ran real strong in the heat and finished a solid 2nd place. The shock was a perfect match.

After another round of adjustments we were ready to take to the track for the feature. We worked our way up through the field and tagged along with the #56 of Tim Rothe to advance up to the top 3... We lost forward bite off the corner and settled into the 3rd spot for the remaining 4 or 5 laps... ANOTHER top 5 for the MCL racing team with a 3rd place finish for the second week in a row...

With another night of solid finishes, we boosted up to another career high...
3RD PLACE in the overall point standings!!!!! We are VERY excited and had a lot of fun celebrating our first top 5 in points last night.. We hope to keep the momentum going and stay solid in the top 5 all season...

I have to give a HUGE thanks to all our sponsors for this season... Being smack dab in the middle of a recession these great companies stuck with us and have helped make the impossible... possible... We truly couldn't do it without each and every one of you!!! Thank you very much!

I've attached the updated points below.

See you all next Thursday at WIR...

Another good round of top 5's for the #36 MCL Racing Team…
We started out the night very good, finally qualifying well… we qualified in with a 19.604 and 5th overall… Just to show everyone how close the competition is…. 3rd - 19.602 4th -19.603 5th - 19.604 (US) Only .003 separated 3rd through 5th in qualifying.. AMAZING!

No heats due to being the Red Race Format…
The feature we had a great car once again… started on the outside 5th row in the 10th spot…. Worked steadily all 75 laps toward the front and ended up 3rd nipping on the heals of the leaders… The car was great thanks to some LONG hours put in this week by the #36 Crew… Thanks guys!!!!

We are on a Thursday night roll for a while here… we will only be running Thursdays for the rest of June and July at WIR… no traveling in the plans other than to the cottage on the weekends… LOL

Great points night… we moved up to another career high…. 6th overall… ONLY 3 points out of 4th…. We are knocking on the door of the top 5 for the first time EVER!!!! We are very excited and hope to keep running up front!

Be sure to check out our website for some great pics of the team at the Driveline 100 last weekend!!!

June 8, 2009

The #36 MCL Racing Team had a rainy gloomy race weekend at the mighty Norway Speedway.

We spent the entire day at the track on Saturday only to get rained out and have to go back on Sunday to run the event.

Qualifying went horrible… we had old tires on for practice and felt the car was very good and that it would be great with the fresh tires… Well they didn't allow us to "scuff" our new tires, meaning we didn't get to practice on them for a couple laps to see how the car would react to the fresh rubber… So we took to the track for qualifying on slippery sticker tires…. When the grip came in on them in the second lap we found the car was very tight on the new tires and we ended up not making the top 16 to qualify into the Driveline 100 by time of the 44 cars there…

So we went to work in the Powerhouse 50 last chance race… We started mid pack in the 26 car field and slowly worked our way to the front. It was a struggle as we got taken backwards by some slower cars on occasion giving up spots we had just gained… We ended up making enough ground and got up to a transfer spot with only a few laps left and we were IN the Driveline 100.

Under Gloomy skies we took to the track for the Driveline 100 with 50 laps on our tires… we started dead last on the field in the 20th position… We had a tough time managing with the extra wear on our tires versus the other guys having fresh tires, be we worked hard for 100 laps and managed to get up 5 spots to the 15th position.

This was actually a great accomplishment as it was a pay per lap event, not a pay per position. PLUS they paid $25 for each car you passed… We lucked out and made enough to cover our expenses for the weekend. And boy was it a LOOOOONG weekend…

Can't wait to get to WIR this Thursday night for the RED RACE!!!! 75 lap late model feature… no heat races… only a last chance race for each division… Should be a GREAT show!!!!

Attached is the #36 Teams Autograph Card for this season. BIG Thanks to Jason Shultz from J&S Design for putting them together for us this year. Jason and Sandy are just starting out in the business and are doing a great job!!! We should have the cards back from the printer for THIS Thursdays Red Race!!!

See you at the track!!!!

Another wreck fest last night at WIR...

We were a tick off in qualifying again, 13th overall....

The heat race went real well... we started 6th and were up to 3rd running with the top 2 nose to tail...
The feature was when the wrecks rolled in again... we started waaaaaay in the back in the 12th position and were very lucky to stay out of 2 good wrecks that took out many cars... We worked our way up to 4th with 2 to go... after a quick yellow, the tires acted goofy and we were slipping and sliding... We lost 4th and fell to 5th overall at the checkers...

Overall we were VERY happy once again to have another top 5 run... Of our first 5 events, we placed in the top 5 on 4 occassions!!!! 4 for 5 and NO DAMAGE is a great way to start the season.

Our poor qualifying hurts us in points... we are still solid in 7th place and a mere 9 points out of 4th... We've made qualifying our HIGHEST priority for next week as we are losing valuable points and are starting behind the fast qualifiers because of the invert... Basically we are making life very hard on ourselves each week.

Saturday Night @ 6:00... Norway Speedways Driveline 100... See you there!!!!!!!!!!!

The MCL Race Team headed North again on Friday night to the Norway Speedway for Round 1 of the Auto Value Bumper to Bumper Series.

We struggled in practice with a LOOSE car…. The crew worked VERY hard to try to tighten the car and after an hour and a half of trying, we came to the conclusion that there was nothing we could do to fix the car other than put the new tires on and run it in race conditions… Well we found the problem that way, THE TIRES, we had on must have had something wrong with them or were just plain worn out. When we put the new tires on the car took off and was now tighter that tight due to all the adjustments we made.

We undid a bunch of stuff we worked on during practice and headed out for qualifying… We were still a tick tight and missed the dash qualifying 8th overall.

We undid some more and had to start in the back of the heat race because of our qualifying position… We decided that the $2000 to win prize in the feature was more important to us than the heat race, so we hung back and stayed out of the pack trying to get a feel for what the car wanted for adjustments.

After a few more changes we were set to take to the track in the feature… We started in the 10th position and steadily worked our way through traffic… Only passing 1 or 2 cars on the inside lane, we used up tires working the outside groove. With only 10 laps into the race, we re-started after a yellow on the outside 2nd row… We worked the outside lane for 15-20 laps side by side for 2nd place and eventually the front right tire gave up and we fell in line to the 3rd position… #45 Mike Garnder was the nights fast qualifier and was flying through the field… with 5 to go he dashed by us on the outside… we tried to follow him through on the White Flag lap to move back up to the top 3, but once again, we couldn’t get the grip we needed and the #1 car of Mike Reichenberger snuck by us in the inside… We ended the race with a solid showing and ANOTHER top 5 finish…

We were happy with the good run, but we were so VERY close to our first feature win of the season…

We are currently 4th in the Norway Points & should be in the top 5 as well for the Auto Value points (their not updated yet)

Also at WIR we are currently at a Career HIGH 7th in the points just a mere 10 points from the top 5…. (too bad we didn't qualify better)

This week the #36 Team heads to WIR on Thursday night for week 2 of Thursday Night Thunder…. Then back on the road on Saturday to Norway for the Driveline 100…. This is what we've been working so hard for at Norway… this is the biggest race of the year up there next to the ASA race in the fall…

Racing begins at 6:00… There is an expected 55-60 Late Models to be there… One of the Biggest shows in the Midwest this summer!

It is the teams LAST trip to Norway till August….. We hope to once again put forth our best effort and have a solid run against the Best in the Midwest!

Big OneIt was an exciting night of racing at the WIR Opener last night... Hard to believe, but there was A LOT of wrecked race cars overall... People were apparently trying to win the championship in the first night! LOL

I've attached a cool photo of "the big one" in the Late Model Feature event... It was a good wreck on the middle of the back stretch. We were racing with the #9 car you see in the picture... We were lucky enough to see the wreck happen and got slowed up and actually locked up the brakes and spun without hitting anything just behind this photo. We slipped through unscathed...

It was our first night at the BIG half mile and I was a little jittery. We didn't get a chance to practice this year at WIR due to the rains we had this week, so we had a fresh car and a rusty driver in practice and qualifying. We qualified a tick off the mark and had a 19.9 second lap putting us 15th overall...

With a few changes to the setup and a little seat time for the driver, we were able to have a better run in the heat moving up to the 2nd spot by the time the checkers flew in the 8 lap race. We also scored the fastest lap in that race by .2 over everyone else.

With confidence coming back and the car starting to grip the track better and better as the MCL Pit Crew led by Tom Sr kept up with changes, we had a great run in the feature... We started waaaaaay back in the 16th position and passed the MOST cars of anyone in the race! We worked our way up through the field finishing in the 6th place.

During the post race inspection, the 4th place finisher was deemed illegal on tread width and was penalized, essentially giving us the 5th place!

We were very happy with the car, our first top 5 at WIR and the new setup for this season!]]

Today (Friday) the MCL Racing Teams heads North to the Norway Speedway for Round 1 of the Auto Value Series. The $2000 to win main event has us geared up and ready to rocket to the front! Racing starts at 7:30 tonight!

See you there!!!

Good Morning Race Fans!

The #36 MCL Racing Team headed to the Norway Speedway again this weekend on Saturday night…

The cars handling was a miss all night, but the MCL Pit Crew worked VERY hard during practice to make MANY changes to get the car to grip the track.

We qualified fairly well again with a 5th place showing.

Then in the dash we made a bid for the lead again and couldn't quite clear to take the lead… we ended up falling in line and finishing 2nd!!!

The feature proved to be a different story… we started in the 12th spot and just couldn't quite get rolling… we'd move forward a spot or two and take the outside lane (the only way to really make time at Norway) and would lose grip and fade back a couple spots… then we'd do the same thing again later in the race…

The race went flag to flag with no cautions and we didn't move a whole bunch from our original starting spot…. We ended up 11th overall…

With a frustrated driver and a VERY frustrated Crew Chief, Tom Sr. tore into the car all day on Monday to find "the missing link"… He found that for whatever unknown reason we had the wrong sway bar in the car causing the mis-handling condition…

So overall, we did fair, we were happy to be qualifying well this season, but were disappointed that we couldn’t be more competitive in the race which is typically our strong suit.

DOUBLE HEADER this week… Thursday Night Thunder (TNT) begins this week, show starts at 7:00 @ WIR in Kaukauna, THEN the MCL Team heads back up to Norway Speedway on Friday night for the 1st Round of the Auto Value Bumper to Bumper Series. Racing starts @ 7:30

Hope to see you there!!!!

NorwayGood Morning Race Fans!!!

The #36 MCL Racing Team headed to the Mighty Norway Speedway this past Friday evening for their opening event of the season.

Under threatening clouds full of rain, we hit the track for qualifying and turned a fairly good time... Putting us 4th overall!!! Our goal to start the evening was to run in the top 5 all night and be in contention to win the feature when the checkers fell... So we were off to a good start to the season!

In the fast dash, we motored up to outside the front row and making a bid for the win, but there was little grip on the outside lane and I made a small mistake coming into turn 3 just a pinch wide and lost grip, slid up the track and gave up a few spots back to the 4th position...

When we took to the track for the feature it was sprinkling... It was only a matter of time before the clouds opened up on us, but we did the best we could to get the race in... We started 10th in the 35 lap contest... The outside lane was still a touch slippery and the rain wasn't helping, but with some adjustments Tom Sr. threw at the car, we were able to get more traction off the corner and slowly made progress on the outside lane.

We made it all the way up to the 3rd position and were closing in on the rear bumper of 2nd when the rain came down with 9 laps remaining... We headed to the pits and the crew ran for the car cover... The rain never let up and the rest of the evening was cancelled. After checking out the laptimes this morning, when we were chasing down 2nd place, we were also gaining .25 of a second per lap on the leader. Not sure how things would have played out, but we were definitely closing in and had a shot at the win...

Overall we were very happy with the evening... Finishing in the top 5 for each of the events was a great way to start the season and layed a great footing to build the rest of the season off of...

There was a nice little write up in the Iron Mountain Daily News and they had a picture of us racing for the lead in the dash on the Front of the Sports page.

One final IMPORTANT topic... Norway has moved the date for this coming Friday to Saturday due to local graduations. THIS WEEK SATURDAY 5/23 the MCL Racing Team heads back to Norway. Racing starts an hour earlier... 6:30 Start Time on SATURDAYS...

We WILL NOT be going to WIR Practice Saturday morning... Not enough time in a day... :(

See you at the track!!!!

The #36 MCL Racing Team headed to the Norway Speedway this past Saturday to shake the car down and try testing a few new setups out during their open practice.

The car performed very well and we ended up 2nd overall. There are a few things we do to improve our qualifying times, so we are hoping to squeeze another tenth of a second out of our lap time this Friday.

We are VERY excited about this coming Friday... We are heading back up to the mighty Norway Speedway for our 1st event of the season! The team is ready...
We are coming out of the gate strong this season and looking for a quick jump up the ladder in the point standings!

Racing starts at 7:30. Carry Ins are allowed at Norway!!! Bring your coolers!!

Weather looks good right now. 67 and partly cloudy in Norway this Friday.
See you there!!!

Lots going on once again at Tom Gee Motorsports!

The team just got back from MCL Industries in Pulaski for their annual Open House & Steak Fry. It's a fun event they put on for all their vendors and clients. Giving all visitors tours of the facility and serving up an outstanding steak dinner with raffles and giveaways following dinner.

Also, I've attached a link below to the Fox 11 news website. On last nights news cast they did a small report on WIR... We weren't at the track practicing during the broadcast, but kinda neat to see the track owner and our "neighbor" in the pits, the Bud Man... John Meidam...

One final report, the team has been working VERY hard this week getting the car ready for somewhat of a surprise practice/test day at the Norway Speedway this coming Saturday 5/9... I was supposed to be on the road for work till Sunday the 10th, but got sent home a week early, so now we are scrambling to tie up the loose ends and be ready to rocket a week earlier than planned THIS Saturday...

BIG thanks to Chuck Buchanan and Phil Dewitt along with Tom Sr who spent the ENTIRE weekend, sunrise till sunset, getting the motor in the car and ready for action!

Then this week Chuck, Sr, Billy Gee, Caleb Fulcher, Joe & Griffin Marks are buttoning up the car and getting all the scaling/setup work done!

LOTS of effort going into this week. We are all excited to hit the track on Saturday!!! If your in the area, I believe the grandstands are free for viewing and the pits are $10 entry if you'd like to join us... We will be at the track from 10:30 - 2:00 dialing in our new suspension!

I will report back with lap times next week... Also, next Friday 5/15 is our first event of the season!!! Norway Speedway... 7:00...

Last, but certainly not least... We are VERY proud to announce another NEW sponsor for the 2009 season... BIG thanks to Kristi Jarek and Kalypso Salon of Green Bay for joining the team! Stay tuned for more announcements on specials at the salon! I'm going to see Kristi on Thursday so we look good when we roll into Norway this weekend!

The car is really taking shape.  A big thanks to Chuck Buchanan, Joe and Griffin Marks, Kalob, Connor and Lauren, Tom Jr, and Tom Sr. We worked all weekend – The Body is complete and ready to put the advertising on. All we need is one shop night to finish to-do list, install the engine and a setup day and we’ll be ready to race.

Car update – new shocks should be in Monday or Tuesday. They are specially built and valved for Tom Gee Motorsports by Leary racing. The shocks are the latest technology from Penske shocks and are double adjustable remote canister. The B&B racing engine will be ready this week. Things left on the car to-do list are, Body bracing, wire new fans and switches, relocate motor mounts, insulate and install new battery (sponsored by Napa auto of Appleton) and new cables, Caulk interior, install spring and shock package, install remote brake reservoirs, and final cleaning and touchup.

We are getting excited for the up coming season. Hope you all are too!! Remember, loose is fast but on the verge of out-of-control.

Hello Race Fans,

The Tom Gee Motorsports Pit Crew is working feverously out in the shop to get the car ready for it's 2009 premier at the MCL Open House on April 30th…

Tom Sr, Chuck, Caleb and myself were workin hard and things are starting to look up… Quite a few minor details to button up yet, but we're in good shape… A quick thank you also to two of my kids Connor and Lauren who cleaned all those rims!

2 key pieces to the puzzle are arriving next week… All our lettering from Victory Sign is scheduled to be done on Tuesday as well as the power plant from B & B Race Engines.

We've acquired another new sponsor in recent weeks… Big Thank you to NAPA Auto parts of Appleton for joining the team this season! The car is filling up, but we still need to touch base with a couple potential leads this week. Hope we can seal the deal with those 3 businesses and we will have a full car again for the 2009 season…

We are EXACTLY 1 month away from our first event…. Friday Night May 15th at the mighty Norway Speedway!!! 30 days and counting!!!

See you all soon!!!

The 2009 Race Season is upon us and all the guys and gals at Tom Gee Motorsports (TGM)are ready for spring and that sweet smell of Turbo Blue!!!! I personally have been swamped at work, out of town on several occasions around the country and in between all that, the kids have been keeping Susie and I plenty busy with Dance, CCD and Basketball practices and tournaments... I threw another iron in the fire when I was re-elected to be the Fox River Racing Club's Vice President for another 2 year term... There is never a dull moment in our lives... that's for sure! I am VERY fortunate to have an AWESOME shop crew in my dad, Tom Sr. and Chuck Buchanan... BIG thanks to those guys right up front to start out the 2009 season! Without their complete dedication every week in the shop, we wouldn't have a race team. These two guys literally tear the car down to nothing and rebuild every aspect of it themselves! Keep your eye on our site for updates in the coming weeks as we approach the season... we are in the beginning stages of that adventure and getting the ball rolling, but like a fine wine... these things take time...
